Jonas Asplund

Born 1971 in Gothenburg, Sweden but grew up mainly in Kalix in the county of Norrbotten in the northern part of Sweden.

Studied at Kapellsbergs School of Music with trumpet as main subject and then at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. Also studied composition at the College of Music in Örebro and at the university in Leipzig, Germany for Prof. Bernd Franke. Has also taken part of different masterclasses and courses. Teachers have for example been Anders Flodin, Olov Helge, Gunnar Valkare, Rolf Enström, Anders Nilsson and Bernd Franke.

My music, as I want to describe it,  has a strong personal character with a duality between the extroverted, expressive and the introverted, barren, clear. Graphic and aleatoric notation and dramatization plays an important part of the will to create a field of tension between notation, performer and listener. Sound masses sometimes creates the counterpoint to the barren and clear and complexity is also an important ingredient in the compositions. The music and the composing process always takes its beginning in and rests against a philosophical and idea based foundation with a symbolism that runs through the compositions and sometimes takes concrete form.
